AMC premiered its six-part miniseries The Prisoner on Sun., Nov. 15.  It was a reinterpretation of the 1960s cult classic.  It will be released on DVD in March - more details to come!

The Prisoner Graphic Novel

A sequel in some form to McGoohan's The Prisoner has been rumoured for over twenty years.  The first project that was almost made was to be a CBS TV series (in the late 1980's) that was to star Kenny Rogers (yes, that Kenny Rogers) as No.6, but it thankfully fell through.  After Mel Gibson's success with Braveheart and his relationship with McGoohan, he was in talks to star in a remake which obviously never happened.  British director Simon West (Con Air) almost got his project off the ground.  In 2006, Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins) had a big screen version  in the works with Clive Owen to star as No.6.  Some two years ago SkyTv pulled out of any remake - and this left the door for AMC to go ahead on their own.  Known for recent Cable TV successes like Mad Men and Breaking Bad, AMC's version of The Prisoner was given McGoohan's blessing before he passed away.  Fans of the old show await its screening, and hopefully fans of the re-imagining of classic TV series (ie. Battlestar Galactica) will tune in - and also be turned on to the original version of The Prisoner.  AMC's website has many great resources, click on the logo below or view some of the videos here.

A must view for fans is The Prisoner panel discussion from Comic-Con 2009.  It is a great tribute to McGoohan that he is mentioned a number of times by all in attendance.
